Docking station Limitation model SEUC3908 13 to 1 and resolution of monitors

  Hi,

  This is regarding the docking station model no SEUC3908 13 to 1 that I’ve purchased on Amazon. Before the purchase I have checked the compatibility of the docking station for the computer I have, it is a HP ZBook 17 G4 Xeon with Thunderbolt 3 connection. Before, I was using the HP Thunderbolt 3 docking station, it has worked for 6 years up until it has broken recently. It was driving two external SATA drives, four monitors, network connections, USB devices and to charge devices. 

  Regarding the model SEUC3908, I have checked the list of compatible computers for the model, the ZBook 17 G4 is on the list of compatible computers. This is why I did purchase your model. I knew that the limitation was for three monitors. So for the fourth one I’m using one of the computer port VGA, HDMI or USBC from HDMI cable. It does work this way in conjunction with your docking station.  The docking station worked with three external hard drives, the network connection, the audio and partially with three monitors. I have not tried the connection for charging devices yet.

  I have two issues with your docking station, the first one is the limitation of the number of devices that can be connected. I cannot use more than three external hard drive even a fourth USB sticks cannot be connected while there are three monitors. What happen if I do the devices are disconnecting and reconnecting every few seconds. The intermittent connection limits the docking station to get more devices. Meaning there are ports that cannot be used because of this constraint or having two external hard drives this way we can get the other ports working. The second issue is regarding a monitor that is connected to the display port, when it comes from an HDMI connection the resolution of the monitor cannot be more than 800 × 600. Well, the resolution of the monitor from where it is connected can get up to 1920 × 1080. I have checked in the control panel, the only resolution for that monitor is only 800 × 600 nothing else. To let you know this monitor was working at the resolution of 1920 × 1080 for years with the HP Thunderbolt 3 docking station. After many different setups with the docking station, I conclude it is not the conversion from HDMI to Display Port it's when the third monitor is connected where the full resolution to 1920x1080 of the third monitor cannot be made. How can we make the monitor get to the 1920 × 1080 resolution?

  While I was searching for answers to my issues. I saw another docking station that seems to work with four monitors “USB C Docking Station 18 in 1 with VGA display”.  I’ve checked the list of compatible computers .ZBook series, they are. I’ve read the reviews, some of the customers had bad luck with their docking stations that have broken soon after their purchase. Others were talking about the limitation of the number of monitors. For those who were not able to get more than two monitors, I think it was due to the fact this is a docking station, not a graphic card, if their computer does have a graphic card that can drive only two monitors they won’t be able to drive a third monitor. The top-rated users that have not got problems are using two monitors only.

  Thank you for posting! Sorry for the inconvenience caused to you due to the docking station.

  The first question is about the limitation of the number of devices that can be connected. It's an anomaly with a load-carrying problem. Our products are pre-charged with approximately 15W of power during use, so please ensure that your power adapter is over 87W. It will be a problem if your computer's power adapter is only 65W. If the first three drives are running at the same time, it is possible that the fourth USB device will not be recognized (note that they are running at the same time), and the power consumption will be too high for the pre-deducted power.

  The second question is about the monitor resolution. Please try this way.

  • Enter the display interface. (Settings---System---Display)

  

  • Now you need to set the interface, press the Win+P key and select the extended mode.

  

  • Select the display window that needs to be adjusted with the mouse, and then select the resolution in the display resolution bar.

  

  • If the above operation cannot select a suitable resolution, go to the bottom of the page, Advanced Display Settings.

  

  • First, determine the model of the external display that needs to be adjusted, then click to enter Display Adapter Properties→List All Modes→Select Adjust Resolution→Set the resolution you need, and then click OK.

  I have done exactly what you are showing me to do from the above. I had to go all the way to the end. As I said the third, monitor display resolution cannot go more than 800 × 600. I have captured the last step you are showing me with. You will find the possible resolution of the monitor that I know can go up to 1920 × 1080 here cannot get higher than 800 × 600. For the power supply of the Selore model, it did not come with a power supply. It’s directly connected to the computer USB C port that’s all. The power supply of the computer charger is 200 watts. I think since the Selore do not come with a power supply it is not enough to send all the driver capabilities from the Nvidia.

  Could I know whether you have a charger connected to the PD port of our products and how much power is the charger? If you are connected to a monitor 800X600 low resolution situation, then you can in the display of advanced settings to readjust it. If it is connected to multiple monitors 800X600 low resolution situation, you can follow the operation document to adjust the resolution. I put the resolution adjustment steps in the attchment, please check it carefully.

  Hi Arin,

  I have checked physically on the computer if the monitors were getting the desired display resolution without any docking station, we can put three monitors directly on the port of the computer, one on the USB-C to an HDMI adaptor, one on the HDMI port and one on the VGA port, all of them get the maximum display resolution of 1920x1080. According to the specification from HP on the zBook, the resolution is depending on the monitor capability not on the video driver. 

  Before when I was using the HP Thunderbolt 3 docking station, four monitors were connected, with two display port connectors, one VGA Port  and one USBC Port to an HDMI adaptor, all monitors were getting the maximum display resolution of 1920x1080. It is not true the laptop card adaptors have this resolution limitation since I have experienced it physically that it is working. 

  The computer has two video cards adaptors an Intel P630 for the laptop video monitor and a Nvidia P4000 that can hold up to four monitors that can have a 4k resolution. 

  When I’m connecting your docking station, the third monitor that I know can hold up 1920x1080 easily gives me the 800x600. So it means that your docking station can hold only two out of three monitors the resolution of 1920x1080. I believe since the Selore docking station is powered through the USBC port it does not have the power to get the display resolution, I know for a fact that when I’m putting an external forth disk drive the devices get disconnected every second. So I had to remove that extra drive from the docking station.

  Thank you for providing such detailed information. The HP Zbook17 G4 Mobile Workstation is a DisplayPort™ 1.2 protocol, and generally speaking, it can only support two external monitors.

  As the information inside the ZBook 17 G4 spec: NOTE: NVIDIA® Quadro® mobile professional graphics support up to four independent displays when using an HP ZBook Dock with Thunderbolt™ 3 (sold separately) or DP 1.2 hubs with MST. AMD FirePro™ professional graphics support up to six independent displays when using an HP ZBook Dock with Thunderbolt™ 3 (sold separately) or DP 1.2 hubs with MST.(https://cdn.cnetcontent.com/9a/32/9a32e4ca-13c1-40c7-b3d5-2433c4849f53.pdf)

  You could connect four displays because using the HP Thunderbolt 3 docking station before.

  But, the SEUC3908 you purchased does not support laptops with DP1.2 connected to 4 monitors, so the resolution would still be affected even if you could connect a third display using our product. This is why the third monitor cannot be displayed at 1920x1080 resolution.

  Putting the fourth disk drive the devices get disconnected every second, as we have explained before, a 100 W power adapter work with 4 dick drive at the same time, so the power consumption is not enough, we recommend only putting 2 disk drive at one time.

  Thank you for answering my question. Just letting you know, even if I connect only three monitors to the SEUC3908 the third monitor will always display at 800 × 600. From what I understand the SEUC3908 does not support the DP1.2 connected to four monitors consequently the resolution will be affected, this is why the third monitor connected on the SEUC3908 will not be able to display the 1920 × 1080 resolution. 

  Do you have a model that is supporting three or four monitors with full resolution.

  Thank you for the link to the document about the zBook 17 G4, I have checked the display specification. From the documentation and above information, with a docking station like the old HP Thunderbolt 3 docking station that I had for 6 years, we can connect up to six external monitors. Four on the docking station and two on the computer.
